Co-operative Based Projects in Renewable Energy and Sustainability

The Golden Jubilee Trust is a charitable trust dedicated to promoting, developing and improving the co-operative movement and agriculture industry in Ireland. The Trust invites applications for funding in the areas of knowledge, education and training.

Key Areas of Interest

We invite proposals in the following areas:

  • – Projects that promote social cohesion, socio-economic progress, and overall wellbeing in rural communities through sustainable practices.

    – Initiatives that engage community members in sustainability efforts and renewable energy projects.

  • – Research on the integration of renewable energy systems to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprints in farming operations.

    – Feasibility studies and pilot projects for solar, wind, biomass or other renewable energy technologies within rural communities.

    – Development and implementation of renewable energy solutions of benefit to the overall co-operative sector.

  • – Applications of sustainable technologies and methods that can be scaled and replicated across the co-operative sector.

    – Projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture through innovative technologies and practices.

  • 4a – Opportunities of Anaerobic Digestion for Dairy Co-operatives:
    – Identification of potential benefits that AD can bring to dairy co-operatives, including economic advantages, waste management solutions and energy production.
    – Analysis of how AD can enhance the sustainability of dairy farming practices, contributing to environmental goals and improving overall farm efficiency.

    4b -Challenges and Projected Scenarios:
    – Detailed exploration of potential challenges that dairy co-operatives might face in adopting AD, such as technological, financial, regulatory and logistical hurdles.
    – Development of projected scenarios that outline various outcomes of AD implementation, considering different scales of adoption and interaction with AD promoters and operators.

4c – Future Interaction of Farming with AD Promoters and Operators:
    – Examination of the dynamics between primary producers (dairy farmers) and AD promoters and operators including co-operative models.
    – Recommendations on best practices for fostering productive relationships and collaborations between dairy farmers and AD stakeholders.

Projects should aim to produce actionable insights and practical recommendations that can guide the Irish dairy co-operative sector in navigating the adoption of AD. The research should highlight:

  • Key factors that will drive the successful integration of AD within dairy farming operations.
  • Strategies to overcome identified challenges and leverage opportunities for long-term sustainability.
  • Impact assessments that illustrate the potential economic, environmental, and social benefits of AD for dairy co-operatives.
